We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer which will have a lead role in the development of our technology. The successful applicant will work with all stakeholders to establish a process design basis and will engage with third parties during the design/construction phase of our demonstration plant. The successful candidate must have design experience in water treatment, chemical, oil/gas, or related industrial sectors. Commissioning and start-up experience is an asset.

  • Lead process design of current and conceptual lithium extraction projects.

  • Work with our clients’ inhouse engineers, EPC companies and vendors to advance the design, construction, and commissioning of our projects.

  • Review pilot plant data to optimize mathematical models of our unit operations.

  • Prepare process engineering deliverables (DBM level) such as the process design criteria, heat and material balance, PFD’s, P&ID’s, etc.

  • Lead a third-party EPC company through the design process by contributing to and reviewing detailed-design deliverables.

  • Work with a multi-discipline team.

  • Participate in the development of a project schedule, scope, budget, and resource planning.

  • Apply expert knowledge of commonly used process concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the process engineering field.

  • Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects.

  • Develop process test plans to safely scope, test and evaluate process optimization opportunities and then formalize into routine operations upon successful outcome.

  • Develop process control philosophies.

  • Support risk mitigation strategies, HAZOP’s and well as maintenance/reliability planning.


  • 10 years experience with process design in an industrial sector (i.e.: water treatment, oil/gas, mining, chemical) including some field experience in an operating environment.

  • Natural leader with experience leading the design of large projects with the ability to steer the execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Skilled with process design calculations (i.e.: equipment sizing, hydraulic calculations, control and relief valves, process simulation, heat and material balance).

  • Skilled at troubleshooting of process control systems.

  • Experience with technology development and/or pilot plants.

  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Experience with process simulation software (HYSYS, Aspen, Symmetry, OLI, etc.) is preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Able to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.
