We are looking for a Chemical/Process Technologist to join the Research and Development team. The main responsibility of the position will be operating and maintaining light manufacturing equipment as well as automated or semi-automated “Test Stations” that are being used to test new process designs, configurations, etc. The ideal candidate will be a mechanically inclined individual with a manufacturing background along with a creative mindset to solve problems and implement solutions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Apply your creativity and tenacity to transition products from laboratory-scale to commercial reality

  • Work collaboratively with other project team members (e.g., R&D scientists, application engineers, manufacturing engineers, assembly/automation engineers, and QA/QC) to ensure the needs and design specifications are being met

  • Provide regular updates on project progress

  • Interpret and analyze data to inform design improvements

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain manufacturing and test equipment

  • Fabricate materials using equipment on the manufacturing line such as hydraulic presses, mixers, etc.

  • Follow manufacturing procedures, produce new formulations, and generate SOPs where appropriate

  • Track and store batches of product with different production methods and tracking the production lot number, ensuring product quality

  • Assemble, commission, and operate product test stations

  • Prepare samples for analysis

  • Collect data and prepare it for analysis

  • Maintain equipment in good working and ensure reliability through order spares, suggesting and implementing process changes and improvements, etc.

  • Assemble test fixtures and prototypes

  • Improve and iterate on designs

  • Prepare test reports and communicate issues and results to the team

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • 2+ years related experience in a manufacturing industry or environment

  • Technologist diploma/certificate in Chemical/Process or related discipline

  • Mechanical aptitude and history of hands-on ability (using hand tools and power tools)

  • Precision when following formulations and documenting test results

  • Creative problem-solver who can think of new ideas and implement them

  • Proven ability to plan and manage own activities to deliver on budget and schedule

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex technological issues in a clear, concise manner

  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel)

  • Experience with QA/QC programs would be an asset

  • Laboratory Experience would be an asset
